Flaming LipsFlaming Lips leader Wayne Coyne says the band has nearly finished recording their next studio album, with a release tentatively planned for this fall. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Coyne said he “honestly [thinks] it might be the best Flaming Lips record that we've ever made.”

Coyne went on to say many of the songs for the album were composed during the sessions for the group’s recent collaborative work, Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends. That album, which saw the band team with such artists as Bon Iver and Coldplay’s Chris Martin, received a limited release in April, in conjunction with Record Store Day. A proper release is set for June 26.

“Things happen when you’re making lots and lots of music and working with lots of freaky people,” Coyne said. “It sends you off in directions that you would not think of. That's the magic of music.”
